“A program tied to Medicaid dollars would provide healthy meals for recipients with chronic illnesses for a six-month period if passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in this year’s state budget.
Pennsylvania Secretary of Human Services Dr. Valerie Arkoosh this week toured the Community Hive in Ephrata Borough to promote the Food is Medicine program that is part of Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2025-26 state budget proposal.
“The Food is Medicine program would allow us to use Medicaid dollars to provide medically tailored meals to individuals with certain diet-sensitive conditions like insulin-dependent diabetes, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease and people receiving chemotherapy for various cancer treatments,” Arkoosh said.”
