Despite LIHEAP staff cuts, Gov. Shapiro extends deadline, encourages applications

“Despite the federal cuts, Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration said in a statement, “Pennsylvania is still able to provide extended LIHEAP assistance due to responsible, proactive planning.”

Shapiro has extended the deadline to apply for the program in Pennsylvania until April 18.

“It’s really important that people just apply,” Peoples Gas spokesperson Nick Paradise added. “There’s a lot of programs out there, and a lot of assistance out there, and actually thousands upon thousands of people that are eligible for customer assistance programs never even apply and aren’t getting that help.”

In Pennsylvania, 300,000 families rely on the assistance program to help cover heating and cooling costs, according to Shapiro.
